Pet Health Insurance..

Have you ever thought about what you would do if your cat or dog was injured or needed life-saving surgery? These types of emergencies can cost thousands of dollars and, too often, we are forced to make a heart-rending decision to lose our best friend because we can’t afford to heal them. We can provide them food, immunizations, healthy animal visits to the veterinarian and a lot of love but a major illness or surgery would be out of the question.

There are so many animal lovers that have faced that same situation—a beloved young dog with a curable disease that they cannot afford to treat, or with internal injuries from an accident that require surgery. Unfortunately, many of these animals are euthanized because their humans cannot afford the treatment. Pet Health Insurance was created for just these types of situations. We insure ourselves and our children so why not our best friends?

Insurance for your pets can not only relieve your worries, it can prevent them. Most pet insurance companies will cover an animal regardless of breed or pedigree for its entire life as long as they are healthy when you buy the policy.

There are a number of different types of coverage, from basic accident insurance to policies that pay for theft, travel and emergency kennel expenses. You will have a deductible, as with any insurance policy, but that is usually a small fraction of the total medical bill. And, like a human’s major medical insurance, you will have to pay for routine costs such as vaccinations, preventative care and grooming costs.

Age Factor

Medical insurance for your cat or dog also takes the age of the animal into account, much like an underwriter for a human policy would. The older the person or animal, the more expensive the insurance will be so it’s best to get your pet insurance while your friend is young and healthy. Most policies will cover your pet his or her entire life as long as you keep the premiums up to date.

Do Your Homework

There are different levels of insurance that cover one or more categories of veterinarian fees, accidental injuries, death, illness, death from an accident, third party liability and legal expenses, and so forth. It’s important to shop different companies so you can be sure to get the most coverage for the least amount of money. But remember, you do get what you pay for! Be certain to read all the fine print, check the exclusion clauses and be absolutely certain of what you are and aren’t getting before you choose a pet insurance policy.

Peace of Mind

Once you decide on a policy and it’s in force, you’ll be surprised how much peace of mind you have. Your friend will never again be in danger of losing their life due to strained finances and will receive the very best medical care. That is certainly worth the small monthly premiums that are often less than twenty dollars per month, not even the cost of a twenty pound bag of dog food!
